Principal's Message

Aloha Kākou,

Welcome to Maunawili Elementary School.  I am Kauʻi Tanaka, proud principal of Maunawili Elementary School. I am deeply connected and rooted in our school community as I have had the privilege of teaching here for over ten years before becoming an administrator.

It is such an honor and privilege to return to Maunawili Elementary School as your principal.  At Maunawili Elementary School, we believe each student is unique and strive to create a learning environment that addresses their individual strengths and needs.  We celebrate cultural diversity and are dedicated to cultivating positive relationships with our families and community.  We believe these partnerships are integral to help provide our students with culturally relevant and meaningful learning experiences.

We have high expectations for academic excellence and provide rigorous standards based instruction in core curricular areas in grades Kindergarten through sixth grade.  Our students also have numerous opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities, service clubs, arts, music, robotics, and technology based learning.  We embrace the development of the “whole child” and are proud of our commitment to Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and Response to Intervention (RTI).

I look forward to continuing our work together and am excited about the inclusive, innovative, and inspirational teaching and learning occurring here at Maunawili Elementary.  Thank you for your continued support.  Please feel free to contact me at (808) 807-0850 or stop by the front office should you have any questions.

Your Partner in Education,

Ms. Tanaka
